Objective: To explore a modified way for inserting double-J stent in laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed our experience in modifying the double-J stent placement on 65 cases underwent laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty from May 2003 to December 2010.

Results: All the 65 cases underwent the procedure successfully without conversion to open surgery. 5 cases received preoperative double-J stent placement; 5 cases took total laparoscopic placement of stent in vivo with duration for placement between (10-19) min, 15.1 min in average; 55 cases received laparoscopic placement of stent both in vitro and in vivo, with a duration for Double-J stent placement between 3-5 min, 3.6 min in average.

Conclusions: Laparoscopic double-J stent placement combing in vitro and in vivo is convenient and takes a short time in laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty.
