BPH 02. 213 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia with chronic prostatitis

Objective: This is a case study of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) complicated with chronic prostatitis (CP).

Methods: A total of 213 patients with confirmed BPH were assessed to obtain expressed prostatic secretions (EPS), and BPH symptom scores (I-PSS) were compared in patients complicated with CP before and after anti-inflammatory treatment.

Results: Of the 213 patients with BPH, there were 69 patients complicated with CP (32.4%), 27 patients with positive EPS positive bacterial culture (12.7%), and 15 patients positive for EPS mycoplasma and chlamydia testing (7.0%). The I-PSS score reduced from (12.2±2.6) before anti-inflammatory medication to (10.5±2.3) after treatment in 69 patients with CP. which was a significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusion EPS examination is useful for determining the presence of CP in BPH patients, and is therefore avaluable tool for improving the clinical efficacy.
