Prof. Yinglu Guo awarded Distinguished Career Award at SIU 2015

Yinglu Guo, Professor and Honorary President of Peking University and Academician of China Academy of Engineering, received Distinguished Career Award at the 35th Congress of the Societe Internationale d'Urologie which was attended by up to 4000 urological experts on October 15, 2015. Prof. Guo was presented the award for his extraordinary contribution to the Society and to the field of urology over the course of his career(Figure 2&3).

SIU 2015, 35th Congress of the Societe Internationale d'Urologie was held in Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australia from October 15 to 18, 2015. SIU(Societe Internationale d'Urologie) was founded in 1907 and the congress of it is organized annually, which attracts enthusiastic urological experts from all over the world to cope with the topics of Urology, Health, Science and Technology and far more(Figure 1).

As the key national discipline, experts of Peking University Hospital Urology are invited to attend the congress of the SIU every year. Dr. Yinglu Guo, dean of Peking University Urologist Training College and Andrology Center of Peking University First Hospital, was awarded the Distinguished Career Award with three other urologists from different countries on the congress at this year. This award is both recognition of Prof. Guo’s achievements and affirmative of Chinese medical workers. To thank SIU for the award, the book Transurethral Columnar Balloon Dilation of Prostate edited by Prof. Yinglu Guo was given to SIU by Prof. Liping Xie, standing committee of the China Medical Association Urology Department Branch and Prof. Xuesong Li, Associate Professor of Peking University First Hospital Urology as souvenir(Figure 4).

Yinglu Guo, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and academic leader of Urology and Andrology, was born on May 4th 1930 in Dingxiang, Shanxi. Prof. Guo graduated from Beijing Medical College in 1956 and received his M.D. of Urology in 1963. Prof. Guo was the Vice-president of First Affiliated Hospital of Peking University; Director of Institute of Urology, Peking University; President of Division of Urologist, Chinese Medical Association; President of Division of Andrology, Chinese Medical Association; Editor-in-Chief of Translational Andrology and Urology and Chinese Journal of Urology; Vice-president of China Family Planning Association; Chairman of Wu Jieping Medical Research Award & Paul Janssen Pharmaceutical Research Award committee. Currently, Prof. Guo is the Dean of Peking University Urologist Training College and Andrology Center of Peking University First Hospital; Honorary president of Peking University First Hospital and honorary director of Institute of Urology, Peking University; Executive Director of Chinese Medical Doctor Association; President of Association of Urological Surgeons; Vice-president of China Medical Foundation; Honorary president of Beijing Guo Ying-Lu Urological Development Foundation; Member of National Physician Examination Committee, Ministry of Health; First member of Key Clinical Disciplines Review Committee, Ministry of Health; First Advisory Board member of the Central Health Care Committee(Figure 5).

Prof. Guo has devoted himself to urology clinical, teaching and research work for decades of years and is mainly engaged in the study of urolithiasis and urological oncology. He is the academic leader of urology and andrology and plays a driving role in the development of kidney transplantation, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and Endourology. Prof. Guo has published more than 500 articles and edited 32 monographs including Kidney Transplantation, Endourology, Prostatitis, Andrology and Surgical treatment of erectile dysfunction.

In recent years, Prof. Guo has dedicated himself to the ‘Talent Project’ on Urology, which aims to train more outstanding urologists and promote the development of Chinese urology.
