P 08. Sub-typing diagnosis of chronic prostatitis by macrophage inflammatory protein-1 (MIP-1) in expressed prostate secretion

Objective: To detect the mRNA and protein expression of MIP-1 in expressed prostatic secretions and determines their significance in sub-type discrimination of chronic prostatitis.

Methods: MIP-1 mRNA levels were investigated by RT-PCR. MIP-1protein levels in EPS were evaluated by ELISA in 65 men: controls (n=15), CBP (n=16), CPPSIIIA (n=11), CPPSIIIB (n=12) and IV subtype (n=11). SPSS 15.0 was used for statistical analysis, and paired t-testwere performed. P<0.05 was considered significant.

Results: Semi-quantitative analysis of RT-PCR showed that, mRNA expression of MIP-1 in Groups CPPSIIIA and CPPSIIIB are higher than that in other groups. ELISA showed that MIP-1 in CPPSIIIA [(1174.3±89.2) pg/ML] and CPPSIIIB [(842.3±76.2) pg/mL] were significantly higher than that in Control [(198±37.8 pg/mL], CBP [(347±61.6) pg/mL] and IV subtype [(292±56.4) pg/mL], respectively.
