BPH 12. Impacts of 2 - MM laser vaporization versus plasma kinetic resection of prostate on the histopathological features of the resected specimens

Objective: To compare the impacts of 2 μm laser vaporization versus plasma kinetic resection of prostate (PKRP) on the histopathological features of the resected specimens.

Methods: Totally 36 patients with the clinical diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were treated with 2 μm laser vaporization or PKRP. The prostate tissues were collected from our hospital from September 2008 to December 2009 and underwent HE staining. The samples were analyzed via microscopy and Image-Pro Plus 6.0 software. Each patient was examined by threedimensional B-transrectal prostate before and after surgery.

Results: There was no difference between PKRP and 2 μm laser surgery in specimen degeneration area (P>0.05). However, in the 2 μm laser surgery group, the necrotic area was significantly larger, the normal area was significantly smaller, and the lesion area was significantly larger (all P<0.05).

Conclusions: Compared with PKRP, the 2 μm laser vaporization has larger impact on the histological features of the resected specimens.
